The Sanford Community Center exists to create a safe environment where youth, families and visitors can socialize and take classes like art, cooking, and ESL. It also hosts public and private events. Throughout its history, this building has been a cornerstone of life for African Americans in Palacios. It began as the Palacios Colored School in 1929, and when schools integrated it was a daycare. Visitors can learn about this distinguished history in the hallway of historical photos.
