The Brazosport Area is home to many historical sites including former plantation homes. These three sites helped shape the area into what it is today. Please contact each site to schedule and coordinate a group visit.

Abner Jackson Plantation Site
This historic archeological site is where the plantation of Major Abner Jackson, the namesake of the city of Lake Jackson, was located. Once a prosperous sugar plantation, the site was destroyed by the same hurricane that devastated Galveston in 1900. Tours highlight the early sugar making process, how convict labor replaced slave labor during the 1870’s, and the destruction of the hurricane of 1900. Levi Jordan Plantation State Historic Site
Significant to the antebellum period of Texas history and the tumultuous era of Reconstruction, this site hosted a sizable plantation operation and two-story Greek Revival-style house. The site highlights the multiple perspectives and evolving relationships of those who lived and worked on the land during the 19th century. Today, the Levi Jordan Plantation provides a unique opportunity to understand the evolving agricultural history of the South and the early African American experience in Texas. Varner Hogg Plantation State Historic Site
This majestic antebellum home tells the story of its three owners: Austin colonist Martin Varner, sugarcane mogul Columbus Patton and Texas Gov. James S. Hogg. This property hosted sugar cane production, rum distilling and oil drilling as it transitioned through families.
