Welcome to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge!

Refuge Visitor Centers:
We have 2 visitor centers. The primary Visitor Center/Headquarters is located near the town of Anahuac, Texas and is open from 9am to 4pm, Wednesday through Sunday.  Here, refuge staff and volunteers are available to provide you with maps, brochures and checklists and will let you know what’s happening on the refuge. This is also where the business of the refuge is conducted. The secondary visitor center (referred to as the Visitor Information Station, or VIS) is located on the Refuge itself, south of FM 1985. The VIS has varied hours depending on volunteer availability. During the spring, the VIS is open 7-days a week from 9am-4pm. During the winter when we have fewer volunteers, the VIS is generally open Wednesday-Sunday from 9am-4pm. Refuge Trails:
Free of charge, seven days a week from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset, you can enjoy one of the many hiking trails available on the refuge.  This is where you can enjoy wildlife-related activities, including wildlife watching, hiking, and photography.  Enjoy your public lands!

Directions:
The primary Visitor Center/Headquarters is east of Houston.  It is located on FM 563 approximately two miles south of I-10 (exit 810).  See the maps section of this website for additional directions.
