Called the shrimp capital of Texas, Palacios is home to a fishing, oystering, and shellfish industry. At the Marina you can sometimes catch sight of the slow, lumbering shrimp boats bringing in a catch of Texas seafood.

Any time of year the Marina is a perfect spot to enjoy the miles of public-access Palacios waterfront. Pack a picnic and sit and watch the birds across the open water. Sometimes you will even see dolphins!

Five Generations and 100 Years of Great Bar B Que. Signature seasonings and sauces, known for the outstanding flavor of their smoked meats and links! The menu: is delicious BBQ, pure and simple. Get your meal to go, call ahead (or not) and use the convenient drive-thru, or take some time and enjoy the step-back-in-time ambiance of the new (old) location that originally opened in 1956. Your meat choices are chopped or brisket beef, pork, ribs, ham or whole and half chickens. There’s also the satisfying option of smoked DJ’s boudain. For your sides, choose from the classic options of beans, potato salad, cole slaw or rice jambalaya. Of course there are onions, pickles and peppers as well. I’m telling you, these people know BBQ. And if you’re smart, you’ll order a sweet tea with that. Prices: A whole chicken by itself is just $10.50. I sprung for the plate with 2 meats (1/2 chicken and brisket) and it came with 3 sides for $10.75. A chopped BBQ sandwich is huge and only $4.00. In other words, reasonable. Recommendations: I must concur with fellow diner Eliza, who always gets the chicken. It is pretty outstanding, with a perfectly smoked skin. Her husband, Maurice, likes just about any of the meats (imagine that) and they’ve been coming to Patillo’s pretty much all their lives. My neighbor at the bar, Billy, used to have a BBQ restaurant himself, so he knows what BBQ’s supposed to taste like. He always goes for the links, and he commented on them, “[Patillo’s] got the next best links other than mine.” That’s a strong recommendation if ever I’ve heard one.
