Big Thicket was the first Preserve in the National Park System established October 11, 1974. It protects an area of rich biological diversity where the eastern hardwood forests meets the Gulf coastal plains, and the Midwest prairie. There are more than 100,000 acres of hiking trails, bird flyways, boating spots & hunting areas.
