Out By The Sea was specifically designed and built as a B and B. There are two rooms located within the main house and three additional rooms on the property. If you are in need of some assistance, there is a newly installed elevator for handicap accessibility. Each of the rooms has its own private bath, plush amenities, satellite TV and privacy window shutters. The rooms are warm, inviting and designed with their own unique charm. There is also a refrigerator for your convenience.
The B&B is located within walking distance to Crystal Beach (2 minutes), and is host to some of the most breathtaking sunrises on the Texas Gulf Coast. Each morning, guest staying at Out By The Sea will enjoy a wonderful breakfast that is served in the main home or on the spacious decks overlooking the gulf, between 8:30 am and 9:00 am.

Directions: If exiting the ferry please drive 11.4 miles on highway 87. This should bring you to Alberdie Street. Please turn right and go straight until your first left. Then turn left on Vista Street and pull in under Out By The Sea! We look forward to seeing you soon. If by any chance you have problems locating us, please call 409-684-1555. Vista Street runs in several sections off of 87, so it is much better to follow these directions than to try and use your phone to locate us!

Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary

Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary is 177 acres of fields, woods, wetlands and ponds. The Rookery in the middle of Claybottom Pond has become a favored roosting and nesting place for thousands of waterbirds. The sanctuary is open to the public sunrise to sunset year round. The High Island sanctuaries, including Smith Oaks, are fee sites–$8 for a day pass and $30 for a season pass. Income supports the habitat restoration efforts conducted by Houston Audubon.
