Did you know that one adult oyster filters 50 gallons of water a day, helping to remove unwanted pollutants in Galveston Bay? Unlike most sea creatures, oysters don’t live in water alone – they need to live on other oyster shells. That is why Galveston Bay Foundation’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program is so important. It focuses on increasing the population of Eastern oysters by returning shucked oyster shells collected from local restaurants back to Galveston Bay to create new oyster habitat and a healthier Bay for all.

To raise awareness about the Oyster Shell Recycling Program, we have deemed April, “Oyster Month.” Enjoy a 20% discount at participating restaurants with the purchase of an Oyster Month Discount Card. In addition to the discount card, the purchase of a ticket will grant you access to recipes from chefs, virtual cooking classes, and a chance to win a date night raffle basket!

Throughout the month of April, bring all your used oyster shell to our Galveston Bay Foundation headquarters in Kemah, Texas, and we will recycle it for you!
